Journey to Oz – Day 5

23 July 2015

I got up late today – 10am. Subconsciously, I must have thought that I am not getting up when it’s raining. I missed out though: Jason told me that he got up earlier and had seen the mist coming out of the hidden lake with a rainbow in the background to complete the picture.

We had a fairly easy and short hike today up: up and around the corner of the mountain. There we set up camp in quite a warm place sheltered by a mountain and some rubble-like hill that separates it from the Kennecott Glacier. There was a little pond where I could wash my hair and I spent the afternoon reading.

Now I am sitting at the top of the rubble ridge, looking into the glacier valley. In contrast to our camping ground on the other side, it is noisy with the glacier working continuously, ice breaking steadily and in chunks. I can see the icefall from here in the distance. Tomorrow we will cross the glacier.
